We had been looking forward to this gig for a long time, RPJ was set to headline the inaugural ‘Rockingham Rocks’ at Rockingham race circuit. Their mission was to entertain the crowds who had come to see the British Touring Cars Championship.
The Band were featured on National radio adverts on heart Radio and even graced billboards!…Their first billboard!
For Rick our front man this really was a gig made in heaven, being a racing driver himself and reigning British GT4 champion he had many friends in the paddock and he was in his element taking the boys around all the pits!
The evening started with The RPJ Boys taking to the stage in front of thousands of race fans and then surprising them by introducing several of the BTCC drivers on stage, who had all agreed to join Rick and the band on stage for a song!….this was always going to be very funny and as such the ITV cameras were on hand to capture it all which was then broadcast the following day as a cutaway on the live tv coverage!
Rick was joined on stage by Touring Car legends Jason Plato, Gordon Shedden, Marc Hynes and playing guitar BTCC newcomer James Cole!…what a line up!…and the race fans loved it!
As the sun set the RPJ Boys ripped through a high energy set, and then mid way through the performance the heavens opened and the rain poured down,…however the crowd were so hyped up that they kept dancing and singing along in the rain!!! AMAZING!!!
The boys finished the set with a big singalong with all the assembled masses waving their hands and singing their hearts out,…a fantastic event, a fantastic race series, and I know the RPJ boys would love to play more BTCC events,…so keep your fingers crossed that we can make it happen in 2015!
